Location

          The venue for the 72nd annual meeting is the Westin Resort (Port Royal Plantation) on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. The meeting will start on Sunday evening, February 11 and end at noon on Thursday, February 15.

Hilton Head Island is one of the most favored resort destinations in the world with a comfortable year-round climate and extraordinary recreational amenities. The island is bordered by 12 miles of white sandy beaches on one side and the intracoastal waterway on the other. There are riding stables, nature preserves, miles of jogging and bike paths, and 30 golf courses to choose from. The Island is known for its many golf courses, excellent restaurants, beautiful waterways and island views, and ecocultural activities within an unspoiled semitropical setting. The historic cities of Savannah (GA), Buffort (SC), and Charleston (SC) are nearby. February is the start of the spring season and temperatures in the 60's (F) can usually be expected.

The hotel is located on the Atlantic Ocean with 12 miles of oceanfront accessible for walking, running, and bicycling. There are three 18-hole PGA championship courses, 16 tennis courts, 3 swimming pools (one indoor), restaurants, lounges, and a full health club on the property. The room rate is $135 per night (single or multiple occupancy) plus taxes.
  

Transportation

Hilton Head is accessible from either the Savannah International Airport (45 minutes by car) in Georgia or the Hilton Head Island Airport (5 minutes away). Registration

The registration fee for SoR members is $115. The registration fee includes access to all technical sessions and the vendor display,  the program and abstract booklets, three receptions, coffee breaks, and refreshments at the poster session. The registration fee does not include the Banquet, which is $45 per ticket. Please see details on meeting registration form.

Registration at the meeting will take place in the Savannah Foyer from 3:00 to 6:30 PM Sunday, February 11. Registration for the duration of the meeting will take place from 8:00 AM to 12:00 noon and from 2:00 to 4:00 PM on February 12 and 13 and from 9:00 AM to 12:00 noon on Wednesday, February 14.
 

Welcoming Reception

A welcoming reception will be held on Sunday, February 11, from 6:30 to 9:00 PM in the Archer/Barnwell. The reception will consist of heavy hors-d'oeuvres of sufficient quantity to make dinner reservations optional. Wine, beer, and soft drinks will be included, but mixed drinks will be a cash bar.
 

Poster Session

Refreshments will be served at the Poster Session on Monday, February 12. This event will start at approximately 5:30 PM. Posters will be displayed in the Savannah Foyer North. This will overlap with the Monday night reception.
 

Society Reception

The Society Reception will be held on Monday, February 12, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM in the Pool Terrace. Mixed drinks will be a cash bar. The winner of the poster session will be announced at the reception. It is recommended that dinner reservations be made following the reception.
 

Society Business Meeting

All attendees are encouraged to attend the annual business meeting of The Society of Rheology on Tuesday, February 13. This meeting will start at approximately 5:30 PM in the Lady Davis/Sampson.
 

Bingham Award Banquet

A reception (open bar) will be held in the Savannah Foyer North beginning at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, February 13, prior to the Bingham Award Banquet. The Banquet will be held in the Calibogue. Dinner will be served at 8:00 PM.
 

Exhibits

Vendors will demonstrate their products in the Archer. Coffee and refreshments will be served in this room.
