Lodging Accommodations

[74th Annual Meeting Home Page]

Hotel reservations must be made directly with the Radisson Hotel. The rates are $108 per room night plus tax for single occupancy and $118 per room night plus tax for double. Register by calling 1 (612) 379-8888 or toll free 1 (800) 822-6757 and specify Radisson Hotel Metrodome. Please make sure to identify yourself as an attendee of "The Society of Rheology Annual Meeting" to ensure conference rates. Room reservations must be made by September 20, 2002 to guarantee this rate. Any rooms not taken by this date will be released to prevent the Society from bearing any penalties.

Alternate Hotels

If the Radisson Hotel Metrodome  runs out of rooms, nearby hotels (for most people only a fifteen to thirty minute walk) are:

Days Inn University
2407 University Avenue SE
Minneapolis, MN 55414
Phone: 612-623-3999 or 800-329-7466
Fax: 612-331-2152
(This hotel may also have better rates
at this point than the Radisson)
Holiday Inn Metrodome
1500 Washington Avenue South
Minneapolis, MN 55454
Phone: 612-333-4646 or 800-448-3663

These hotels and the Radisson Hotel Metrodome are probably sold out Friday and Saturday due to sports activities, but may have rooms from Sunday on.

Minnesota's homecoming game with Northwestern was moved to Thursday October 10 to accommodate a potential Twins playoff game, but other homecoming activities including a parade Saturday October 12 continue on schedule. Twins playoff games would crowd us as well.

If you must arrive Friday or Saturday (perhaps for the Short Course on Microfluidics and Microrheology) but have not yet made a hotel reservation, you will probably need to resort to a hotel located some greater distance from the Radisson Hotel Metrodome and University campus:

Radisson Hotel Roseville
2540 N. Cleveland Ave.
Roseville, MN 55113
Phone: 651-636-4567 or 800-333-3333
Fax: 651-636-7110

This hotel currently has rooms available Friday and Saturday and a free shuttle service to the Radisson Hotel Metrodome on the University Campus where the Short Course and meeting will be held. Tell them you are attending a conference at the University for a discount.

Parking

Parking close to the University will be difficult during the Short  Course, and perhaps during the meeting itself. Parking is generally in short supply around campus, and costs extra at the Radisson Hotel Metrodome (and is available only to those staying at the hotel). If you want to avoid parking difficulties, the easiest way to get to the hotel from the airport is by taxi. If you must drive to campus, directions from the airport can be found at
http://www.cems.umn.edu/Contacts/Contacts_map.htm, and a map showing Major Access Routes to campus is at http://www1.umn.edu/pts/maps/accmap.htm.

The least expensive daily parking is $3.25/day in the Huron Blvd Parking Complex. This is on the Minneapolis Campus, East Bank (east bank of the Mississippi River). See http://www1.umn.edu/pts/maps/ebcolr.htm and note the Radisson Hotel location relatively close by on Washington Avenue. The Huron Blvd Parking Complex is shown in pink on the map.

The parking map for the West Bank (The Holiday Inn Metrodome is on the West Bank) is at http://www1.umn.edu/pts/maps/wbcolr.htm.

Parking in the Washington Avenue Ramp is convenient, right next to the Radisson. Ramps are more expensive than the Huron Blvd Parking Complex, at least $2.50/hr and at least $12/day maximum. The East Bank map (above) shows the Washington Avenue Ramp, right next to the Radisson; however, it might be full at times during the meeting. Early arrival gives you a better chance. The Huron Blvd Parking Complex may be less likely to fill up; however, sometimes it does too. On such days it helps to get there before 10 AM. The University Avenue Ramp is also close to the Radisson, and is another more expensive alternative.
