The 84th Annual Meeting of The Society of Rheology
will be held in Pasadena, California on February 10-14, 2013; the optional
associated short course will be offered on February 9 and 10. The technical
program will take place in the Pasadena Convention Center/Conference
Building, adjacent to the
Paseo Colorado,
a short walk from Old
Town Pasadena and 1.5 miles away from the
California Institute of
Technology. A dynamic city centered in beautiful Southern California,
Pasadena is a city of discovery – from dining and shopping to theater and
art galleries. Pasadena, the Crown of the Valley, is best known as the host of a celebration more than a century old, the annual Tournament of Roses Parade and Rose Bowl football game, every January. The City also boasts numerous cultural amenities, such as the Old Town with the famous Castle Green, an imposing seven story Moorish Colonial and Spanish style building sitting next to Central Park in Old Pasadena; the Norton Simon Museum, known around the world as one of the most remarkable private art collections ever assembled; the Gamble House, an outstanding example of American Arts and Crafts style architecture designed by Charles and Henry Greene in 1908 for David and Mary Gamble of the Procter & Gamble Company; Huntington Gardens, 120 acres of more than a dozen specialized gardens arranged within a park-like landscape of rolling lawns; Pacific Asia Museum, one of only four U.S. institutions dedicated to the arts and culture of Asia and the Pacific Islands; Pasadena Museum of California Art (PMCA), dedicated to the exhibition of California art, architecture, and design from 1850 to the present. Pasadena offers the SoR attendees a surprising combination of sophisticated charm, culture, history, and fun, in the mild and beautiful winter of Southern California [average temperature: High 70°F (21°C)/Low 45°F (7°C) with an average rainfall of 3.9 in (99 mm) in February].
