Location

The 86th Annual Meeting of The Society of Rheology will be held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on October 5 9, 2014; the optional associated short courses will be offered October 4 and 5. The technical program will take place in Loews Philadelphia Hotel near Center City. Philadelphia is the birthplace of the United States of America and the conference is located near Center City at the corner of 12th St. and Market Street. The Pennsylvania Convention Center, Reading Terminal Market, City Hall and China Town are all within walking distance. Various restaurants are within five blocks of the conference hotel.

The hotel is located in the nationally recognized historic building erected by the Philadelphia Savings Fund Society (PSFS) in 1933. Art deco décor and original Cartier clocks are throughout the building demonstrating a nod to the past and earning the Loews hotel chain several historical renovation awards upon completion in 2000.

Philadelphia is the nation’s city of firsts; It has the first art school, the first African-American church, the first U.S. zoo, the first botanical garden and the first stock exchange. It is also where the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution were signed in Independence Hall. There is so much history in Philadelphia and the tourist can learn how the USA became an independent nation. It’s a city proud of its heritage and has earned its City of Brotherly Love title. In fact you can see the famous LOVE statue while in Philadelphia too! From cheese steaks to the Rocky statue outside the Philadelphia Museum of Art one can experience it all.

Ground Transportation from/to the Airport

• There is a flat $28.50 taxi fee regardless of the number of passengers.

• SEPTA offers trains right from the airport to the Market East train station that is near the hotel. See schedule.

Conference registration includes access to all technical sessions and the vendor display, program and abstract booklets, and all receptions and coffee breaks. The registration fee does not include the Bingham Award Banquet; see details on the meeting registration page.

On-site registration will be held on Sunday, October 5th, from 3:00 pm to 6:30 pm at the second floor in the Millennium Prefunction Area of Loews Hotel. Registration will also be held Monday through Wednesday, from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, at the same location.
