89th Annual Meeting (Oct 2017)

Gallery of Rheology Contest

[89th Annual Meeting Home Page]

Abstract submissions are invited for posters for the “Gallery of Rheology” with a deadline of August 11, 2017.

Contest Description

In conjunction with the regular Poster Session, The Society of Rheology is sponsoring a new Gallery of Rheology Contest session to highlight the visually striking aspects of research in our community. Posters or prints with images of deformation, flow, material structure, and other work that emphasizes visually engaging aspects of rheology are appropriate.

The Gallery contest posters will be displayed in a designated area during the regular Poster Session on Wednesday evening October 11, 2017. To compete, in addition to the abstract submission (by August 11, 2017), entrants will also need to submit a digital copy of their entry through the Gallery of Rheology Contest Upload Site by October 6, 2017.

The digital copy must be a PDF or JPEG/JPG file not more than 40 MB. Note that the authors of the winning entry will be invited to have their image on the cover of an issue of the Rheology Bulletin. That printed image should be at least 600 dpi at a size of 8.5"x11" (portrait), i.e. at least 5100 pixels W x 6600 pixels H.

For the meeting, bring a hardcopy that is no larger than 2 ft  in width and 3 ft  in height. This is a smaller size (about half size) than the posters in the Poster Session. The 2-ft horizontal limit is very important, as this is required to fit two posters on a single display board. The schedule at the meeting is as follows:

Preview
Monday  1:30 PM - 5:00 PM  Cripple Creek Foyer
Tuesday  8:30 AM - 4:00 PM  Cripple Creek Foyer
Wednesday  8:30 AM - 4:00 PM  Cripple Creek Foyer
Contest
Wednesday  6:30 PM - 8:30 PM (Online voting 10:00 AM - 8:00 PM)  Cripple Creek Foyer

No video submissions will be accepted, but presenters may bring their own hand-held device to show any videos that supplement their poster.

A winner will be selected by popular vote at the conference and featured on the cover of the Rheology Bulletin. Winner needs to be a registered attendee at the conference, but need not be present to win. If necessary, a colleague can put up the poster for them.

We hope this is the beginning of a regular feature of our meetings. To be successful, we need your submission!

Please contact the technical program co-chairs Randy Ewoldt (ewoldt@illinois.edu) or Anne Grillet (amgrill@sandia.gov) with any questions.
